چکیده

This article reports measurements of the concentration distribution of two model proteins adsorbed from aqueous solution by two different high surface area carbons, using small angle neutron and X-ray scattering (SANS and SAXS). The proteins investigated were bovine serum albumin (67 kDa), and bovine pancreatic trypsin inhibitor (BPTI), also known under the name aprotinin (6.5 kDa). The two carbon substrates were C1, an open structured carbon aerogel derived from a resorcinol– formaldehyde polymer aerogel, and C2, a commercial nanoporous carbon from Corresponding author. Diffusion and adsorption of methane confined in nano-porous carbon aerogel: A combined quasi-elastic and small-angle neutron scattering study

The diffusion of methane confined in nano-porous carbon aerogel with the average pore size 48 Å and porosity 60% was investigated as a function of pressure at T = 298 K using quasi-elastic neutron scattering (QENS). The diffusivity of methane shows a clear effect of confinement: it is about two orders of magnitude lower than in bulk at the same thermodynamic conditions and is close to the diffu...

Characterisation of porous solids using small-angle scattering and NMR cryoporometry

The characteristics of several porous systems have been studied by the use of small-angle neutron scattering [SANS] and nuclear magnetic resonance [NMR] techniques. The measurements reveal different characteristics for sol-gel silicas, activated carbons and ordered mesoporous silicas of the MCM and SBA type. Good agreement is obtained between gas adsorption measurements and the NMR and SANS res...

Ultra small angle neutron scattering study of the nanometer to micrometer structure of porous Vycor

Ultra small angle neutron scattering (USANS) and SANS measurements, covering length scales from nanometers to micrometers, were made to investigate the structure of monolithic porous Vycor. USANS from dry Vycor showed strong very low angle scattering below scattering vector q = 0.001 Å 1 while SANS showed the typical inter-pore correlation peak at q = 0.023 Å . When the sample was saturated wit...

“real Time” Determination of Porosity Development in Carbons: a Combined Saxs/tga Approach

Small angle scattering (SAS) techniques offer a number of advantages for the investigation of the nature and behavior of porous materials. In particular, with respect to carbons, the nonintrusive nature of SAS means that, in principle, characterization can be performed on carbons in situ during activation/gasification processes, allowing real time resolution of porosity development. These types...

Methane Adsorption in Model Mesoporous Material, SBA-15, Studied by Small-Angle Neutron Scattering

The understanding of methane adsorption is important for many industrial applications, especially for the shale gas production, where it is critical to understand the adsorption/desorption of methane in pores even as small as a few nanometers. Using small-angle neutron scattering (SANS), we have studied the adsorption of deuterated methane (CD4) into one model mesoporous material, SBA-15, with ...
